Ganga Jamuna trek - 14 days |
|
This is a purely camping and moderate
trek. You pass different villages where
you can interact with the different
ethnic groups such as Tamang, Gurung,
Brahmin, Chhetri and few others of
Nepal. The trail offers you a peek
observation of the culture and unchanged
tradition of these people. The mountain
peaks you can enjoy are Langtang range,
Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, Manaslu
range, Lamjung Himal, Himalchuli,
Annapurna range and many other unnamed
mountains and peaks.
While trekking you find this trail is
enriched with beautiful flora and fauna.
You pass rhododendron, pine forests with
other natural vegetation. These forests
are home of various species of birds and
wild animals.
This trail offers you a visit to Hindu
and Buddhist pilgrimage site as well.
The famous Tripura Sundari Temple lies
at Salyankot where there is held a big
fair from time to time. Hindu devotees
offer special prayer and animal
sacrifice to the deity. Except these
Buddhist monasteries and chortens
preserve distinct culture and tradition
in itself. Another attraction of this
trek is that you visit Ganga Jamuna
which is a twin waterfall. There is a
Kukur Dhara (Dog Spring) and it is
believed that taking a dip into this
will rid you from rabies. Ganga Jamuna
is Hindu pilgrimage site where a famous
fair is held around the temple before
three days of full moon day during the
first week of November. Here is a holy
stone which is highly revered by the
Hindu devotees and local people. It is
believed that this holy stone preserves
the divine power as water originates
from there. |

Day
01 :
|
Drive from Kathmandu to
Samari Bhanjyang(1250m.)
via Trishuli Bazaar
(540m.) by bus. Depart
Kathmandu early morning
for the 7-hours drive to
the hill town of Sole
Bazaar Today you trace
the route taken by
Prithvi Narayan Shah on
his invasion march to
Kathmandu over two
centuries ago. Prithvi
Narayan Shah is
considered the founding
father of modern Nepal,
being the first person
to assemble all the
territories of the
present country of Nepal
under one ruler. En
route you pass through
Trisuli Bazaar, a small
town that was once the
hub for trekking in this
region and is home to a
small but interesting
traditional bazaar. From
here you travel through
gravel road until you
reach Samari Bhanjyang
and this is picturesque
drive as you can see the
beautiful scenery of
rice terraces, small
gorges and green hills.
Samari Bhanjyang is a
small town and it was a
trading place in the
past. |
Day
02 :
|
Trek from Samari
Bhanjyang to
Katunje Bazaar
(765m.) which
takes about six
and half hours.
In the beginning
you trek along
gradual descent
path and then
your trail turns
uphill. Finally
you trek through
flat land to
reach your
destination. En
route you pass
different
villages,
forests covered
with pine and
rhododendron,
farming
terraces, small
streams and
numerous green
hills. There is
a small market
in Katunje and
you can have
first glimpse of
Ganesh Himal
from here.

Day
03 :
|
Trek from
Katunje Bazaar
to Kintang Phedi
(655m.) and it
takes about five
and half hours.
In the beginning
the trail goes
downhill till
Lapang Besi. Now
you walk along
the river bank
until you reach
Kintang Phedi.
En route you
pass several
traditional
villages,
farming
terraces,
fishing spot and
beautiful green
hills. Kintang
Phedi lies at
the bank of
Netrawati or
Ankhu Khola
(stream). There
are few typical
houses, shops
with minimal
supply and
terraces where
local people
grow potatoes
and other food
grains.

Day
04 :
|
Trek from
Kintang Phedi to
Jharlang
(1500m.) and it
takes about six
hours. All the
way you trek
gradual ascent
path passing
through several
villages,
farming terraces
and green hills.
These villages
are predominated
by Tamang,
Brahmin and
Chhetris
respectively.
Maize, millet,
rice, wheat,
buck wheat and
green vegetable
are their staple
food. Jharlang
is a Tamang
village. You
find a
government
school and
numerous typical
houses. The main
occupation of
the locals is
agriculture.

Day
05 :
|
Trek from
Jharlang to Laba
(1750m.) which
takes about six
hours. The trail
goes gradual up
and sometime
steep up in the
beginning.
Towards the
ending point the
trail moves
downhill till
Laba. En route
you pass
villages, small
gorges, small
forests, farming
terraces and
green hills.
Laba is another
village which
you encounter in
this trek. It is
inhabited by
both Tamang and
Gurung. You can
observe the
typical culture
practiced by
these ethnic
communities.
They speak their
own language.
The visitors can
taste their
traditional food
and local
alcoholic drink
(chhyang). This
trekking route
is enriched with
distinct culture
and unchanged
tradition of
ethnic groups
like Tamang and
Gurung. The
potatoes grown
in and around
this area are
famous all over
Nepal.

Day
06:
|
Trek from Laba
to Manyang
Bhanjyang
(2934m.) and it
takes about five
hours. This day
you trek through
beautiful
rhododendron and
pine forests.
These forests
are the home of
various species
of birds and
wild animals.
The trail moves
up hill all the
way to manyang
Bhanjyang. From
here you can see
the first
glimpse of
Ganesh Himal.
While trekking
you pass Khading
village mainly
resided by
Tamang and
Gurung. The main
crop is potato
here. Manyang
Bhanjyang is a
ridge and you
find forests and
grass land here.
This is a
perfect place
for camping as
your camping
site is
surrounded by
rhododendron and
oak forests.

Day
07 :
|
Trek from
Manyang
Bhanjyang to
Majhgaun
(2200m.) and
which takes
approximately
six hours. To
reach Majhgaun
you have to trek
along gradual
descent path and
after some time
steep descent
path but again
you move
downward toward
the ending
point. On the
way you pass
forests of
rhododendron and
oak, villages,
farming terraces
and green hills.
This day you are
quite captivated
by the clear
views of Manaslu
range, Buddha
peak on a clear
weather and
other unnamed
mountains and
peaks. As you
enter Majhgaun
you will find
local people
being engaged in
farming but it
is reported that
some people have
migrated either
to foreign
country or
Kathmandu.

Day
08 :
|
Trek from
Majhgaun to
Ganga Jamuna
(3244m.) which
takes about six
hours. After
descending for
early few hours
the trail turns
steep ascent
until you reach
Ganga Jamuna.
This is a Hindu
pilgrimage site
where a famous
fair is held
around the
temple before
three days of
full moon day
during the first
week of
November. Many
Hindu devotees
crowd this holy
site for worship
and blessing.
Here is a holy
stone which is
highly revered
by the Hindu
devotees and
local people. It
is believed that
this holy stone
preserves the

09 :
|
Rest day at
Ganga Jamuna.
This day you can
hike to the top
of Ganga Jamuna
and can enjoy
the spectacular
views of
Langtang range,
Ganesh Himal,
Shringi Himal,
Manaslu range,
Lamjung Himal,
Himalchuli,
Annapurna range
and many other
unnamed
mountains and
peaks. On the
way you cross
dense forests of
rhododendron and
other natural
vegetation.

Day 10 :
|
Trek from Ganga
Jamuna to
Salyankot
(1100m.) which
takes about six
hours. Leaving
Ganga Jamuna you
go straight
downhill till
Dangsing
village. From
here you trek
gradual downhill
all the way to
Salyankot. This
part of the
trail is quite
beautiful. You
pass many
villages, walk
along the ridge,
can enjoy
magnificent
views of green
hills, farming
terraces and the
best part is
that you can
interact with
the local
people.
Salyankot is a
village where
there is a
temple of
Tripura Sundari,
one of the Hindu
Goddess. There
is held a fair
during Dashain
which is one of
the biggest
festivals of
Nepal. During
this time
special worship
is offered to
deity and animal
sacrifice is
must. Not
limited to this,
you can catch
panoramic views
of Ganesh Himal.

Day
11 :
|
Trek from
Salyankot to
Aarughat Bazzar
(500m.) which
takes about six
hours. Until you
meet your
destination you
trek downhill
all the way. En
route you pass
villages, small
forests, farming
terraces and
green hills.
Aarughat Bazzar
covers small
area with an old
market. Here you
find shops with
minimal supply,
motor able road,
high school,
health post,
typical tea
houses, small
lodges and it
lies at the bank
of Budhi Gandaki
river. Here the
route to Manaslu
trekking meets.

Day
12 :
|
Trek from
Aarughat Bazaar
to Khanchok
(1050m.) and it
takes about six
hours. This day
you trek steep
ascent path
until you reach
a high school at
Tandrang
village. Now the
trail goes
gradual uphill
along the ridge
till Khanchok.
There you find a
motor able road,
high school,
local but old
market. This
place offers you
panoramic views
of Manaslu,
Buddha peak and
other views of
unnamed mountain
and peaks.

Day
13 :
|
Trek from
Khanchok to
Gorkha (1143m.)
which takes
about six hours.
To reach Gorkha
the trail moves
uphill all the
way to Gorkha
temple. Now you
trek descent
path along stone
stair for about
20 minutes to
reach Gorkha
town.

Day
14 :
|
Drive from
Gorkha to
Kathmandu by bus
and it takes
about four and
half hours.
It is a pleasant
drive back to
Kathmandu via
beautiful Abu
Khaireni town.
While driving,
you head up to
Muglin and
Kurintar where
the Nepal's
first Cable car
is operated to
reach to
Manakamana
Temple. En
route, you could
enjoy the
mountain views,
green sceneries,
rice terrace
fields,
vegetable fields
and people being
engaged in their
daily life
activities. From
Naubishe you
climb up to
Thankot, the
gateway to
capital city.
